Today, I had ELP and JLP exchanges.
First, we talked about Japanese cultures, such as Sosyoku kei danshi, or marriage in Japan. I did not expect that they know about Sosyoku kei danshi or something which is very up-to-date things. I was surprised about that. Most of us agreed with the thought that we do not like Shosyoku kei danshi, or we do not like the idea that women have to quit their job after marriage. However, how to think about that kind of problem seemed different.
Then, we talked about our essay topics, manga and anime(my topic) and biohazard(Miku's topic).
Most of JLP students like anime or manga. What was interesting was that JLP students talked about the parent's control on children. One of them said her parents never let her read manga because of the violent scenes. Also, other guys argued that parents should help their children. On the other hand, Miku and me were not controled by our parents when it came to anime or manga. I thought people are independent in wester cultures more than Japanese culture, so I was surprised and it was interesting.
About Miku's topic, biohazard, we talked about Fukushima or something related to the earthquake. They said they had been shocked by the news in Japan. It was not so clear to me, or Japanese people. But, to western people, it seem that news in Japan is not clear at all. Also, Miku asked "were you scared of the earthquake?" and they answered " we were scared but we really wanted to go to Japan". I do not know why exactly, but I was a little bit happy to hear that.
Today's exchange was so interesting.
What I though about their Japanese is same as what they thought about my Japanese, I guess.
Also, cultural differences were a lot interesting.
I really enjoyed it.
